Rock out at the North Fork Community Theatre’s upcoming performances of School of Rock
Musical meets rock concert? Count us in!
From Thursday, July 17, through Sunday, August 3, the North Fork Community Theatre’s Youth on Stage presents “School of Rock,” based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award-winning musical and original 2003 comedy film.
The latest production from Youth on Stage and directed by Liz Liszanckie, “follows the story of want-to-be rock star Dewey Finn, who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school,” shared Liz in a recent interview. “There, he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band!”
Liz shared the inside scoop on what makes this upcoming production a special one and what we can expect to see from the North Fork Community Theatre’s Youth on Stage production of “School of Rock.”
Q: What can the audience expect from this production by Youth on Stage?
Liz: In any YOS [Youth on Stage] show, you will see triple-threat youth actors who sing, act, and dance, but in School of Rock, you will also see the youth rock out on stage. The show is a musical and a rock concert all wrapped up in one show.
Q: Why was this musical chosen?
Liz: Each year, we look at shows that will provide a new challenge to the youth who participate. This show added the element of playing instruments live on stage and required us to lower the age range to incorporate more kids. School of Rock is a fun show that makes the audience happy.
Q: What has been your favorite part of directing this production?
Liz: The cast bonded early, and watching them have fun on stage makes it all worth it.
Q: Any special sneak peeks to share with Petite readers?
Liz: Be prepared to enjoy not only a great production of a fun musical but also a rock concert!
Q: What should Petite North Fork readers know about Youth on Stage?
Liz: If your child ever expresses interest in YOS, encourage them to do it! It will be hard work, but it is such a rewarding experience. Lifelong friendships are made, and it is an immersive theatre experience. I would want every kid on the North Fork to experience YOS at least once.
Q: What ages is this musical most appropriate for?
Liz: We consider the show to be PG-rated. There are a few bad words, but as Dewey says, ‘We're the School of Rock! We can say anything!’
